About Gad Almaliah
Gad Almaliah, z"l, was born and raised in Jerusalem. He graduated from the prestigious Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and continued his studies at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
His international career reflected both artistic excellence and cultural impact. The Mexican government sponsored Gad for two years to collaborate with local artists at the University of Mexico, further expanding his global artistic reach. He served as President of the Graphic Designers’ Association of Israel for 15 years, shaping the profession nationally.
Gad’s work extended far beyond the studio. He designed stamps for the postal services of Israel, the United States, and Mexico, created coins and medals for the Israeli Government, and designed the emblem commemorating the Six Day War. He also produced numerous award-winning posters and authored several books on design.
A dedicated educator, Gad taught design at the university level in Israel and Canada and served on the faculties of both the School of Visual Arts and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
Gad passed away in 2007, leaving behind a legacy of artistic innovation, cultural contribution, and enduring Judaica design.

In 1992, Joan and Gad Almaliah founded The Design Lab, working side by side to create an extensive and beloved collection of Judaica, ketubot, and fine artwork.
Together, they combined artistic vision and spiritual depth, building a body of work that continues to bring beauty, meaning, and tradition into Jewish homes around the world.
Today, Joan continues Gad’s artistic legacy with deep pride and devotion. What began as a shared creative journey has become a lifelong commitment to preserving and sharing his vision. Each piece reflects not only Gad’s extraordinary talent, but also the love, faith, and partnership that shaped their work together. Joan remains dedicated to bringing his Judaica, ketubot, and artwork into Jewish homes around the world — ensuring that his designs continue to illuminate celebrations, sanctify sacred moments, and connect generations through beauty and meaning.
