The four corners, Heaven, Sky, Sea and Land surround a border depicting symbols of the four seasons that ring the cut paper calligraphed quotation “To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under the heavens,” from Ecclesiastes in English and Hebrew.
The artist will hand-calligraph a custom text for $300 per language.

Karen Shain Schloss is a calligrapher, graphic designer, and cut paper artist. Using calligraphy and the traditional medium of cut paper she creates intricate designs for life cycle pieces, family trees, and ketubah (marriage documents). She calligraphs formal testimonials and documents for business and industry, as well as songs and poems for friends and lovers. Karen has created designs for religious institutions and has been commissioned to create artwork for major installations in synagogues and schools.

Karen cuts each of her lasercut ketubah designs by hand with a fine blade exacto knife. Each finished ketubah is then reproduced exactly from the original using a flatbed laser cutter in small limited editions. The “reproductions” are painstakingly examined for accuracy before being selected as an authenticated hand-signed piece of art. Karen will personally inscribe your information into a preprinted text of your choice so that the calligraphy is seamless in all respects.
