Stephanie Caplan has been making ketubot for more than 15 years, creating modern ketubot that are both art and ritual object.
Making Judaica allows her to bring a modern aesthetic to a traditional artform, enhancing their use and connection to people, enabling transformation through art.
Stephanie is inspired by Japanese textiles and Eames chairs, trees, the ocean and the architecture of New York.
Stephanie Caplan grew up in Montreal and Newton, Massachusetts. She attended Solomon Schechter Day School, went Camp Ramah, spent a year in Jerusalem and studied comparative religion and art history at Barnard College, then calligraphy at Roehampton in London.
Stephanie lives and works in the East Village of New York City.
It’s recommended that you order the ketubah 6 – 8 weeks in advance. Stephanie usually does it in less time. Rush charges apply for ketubahs needed within 3 weeks.

The informal Egalitarian is suitable for a Reform or Interfaith wedding ceremony. The language is the most loving and spiritual but least religious offered by Stephanie.
The formal Egalitarian text is appropriate for couples having a Reform wedding ceremony. It’s loving and talks about Jewish tradition.
The Conservative text contains the Lieberman Clause. It’s offered in Aramaic only or with a short English text for those who want their names and date to appear in English..
English on the Conservative: On the __ day of ___ in the year ____, here in _____, _____ and _____ came together, surrounded by family & friends, to make this sacred covenant as partners in marriage, to support & encourage each other as they strive to fulfill the hopes & promises of their lives.
The Orthodox text is appropriate for couples who want the traditional Aramaic text, recognized by every Jewish court as a legal ketubah. Since Stephanie’s calligraphy is non-traditional, it’s important to have your Rabbi approve the calligraphy and the text itself before ordering it.
